For Tommy’s Pizza and Subs, it’s tough to understand that sometimes you just don’t feel like a pizza. Sometimes you just want to change it up. It happens.
Over the years, we’ve offered hearty hot and cold subs, lasagna and penne dinners, garlic bread, and crisp, fresh salads for those times when a pizza just won’t do. Now, Tommy’s has added a NEW menu item that promises to delight and tantalize the taste buds: wings.
We think pizza and wings are a match made in culinary heaven. The combination of the savory, cheesy goodness of pizza with the spicy, tangy, and crispy allure of hot wings and assorted other flavors (more on that in a moment) is a pairing that’s hard to beat. So, whether you’re normally a fan of classic cheese pizza, a Margherita, or our popular “Works Pizza” (loaded with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, black olives, bell pepper, and onion), we hope the addition of chicken wings to our menu offers a flavorful, versatile option that appeals.
WHICH CAME FIRST, THE CHICKEN WING OR THE EGG?
The history of chicken wings dates back centuries, with various cultures around the world incorporating them into their cuisines.
- In Chinese cuisine, chicken wings have been used in recipes like soy sauce wings for thousands of years.
- In American southern cuisine, they have been a staple in dishes such as fried chicken. However, wings were often considered less desirable parts of the chicken until the mid-20th century.
The popularity of wings soared in the 1960s with the creation of Buffalo wings, which transformed wings into a beloved bar and party food.
WHAT DO WINGS HAVE TO DO WITH A BUFFALO?
The story of hot wings, often referred to as Buffalo wings, dates back to 1964 in Buffalo, New York. The origin tale revolves around Teressa Bellissimo, who co-owned the Anchor Bar with her husband, Frank. One night, their son Dominic asked for a late-night snack for his friends. Teressa, faced with a limited selection, decided to deep fry some chicken wings, which were typically used for soup stock, and then toss them in a homemade hot sauce. The result was an instant hit.
The wings, served with celery sticks and blue cheese dressing to balance the heat, became a hit. The popularity of hot wings grew rapidly, spreading beyond Buffalo and eventually becoming a worldwide sensation. Today, hot wings are a staple at sports bars, restaurants, and in homes.

Since our founding, Tommy’s Pizza and Subs has prided itself on using high-quality ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and recipes that have stood the test of time. Every pizza at Tommy’s is crafted with care, featuring fresh dough, homemade sauce, and the finest toppings.
